Among the public “Highlights” of the EAHAE weekly Zoom sessions, this February 9, 2021, conversation stands out as a milestone for coaches working with the HorseDream concept
It addresses a deceptively simple but highly relevant question:
How do we work with experienced riders who already “know” horses?
What followed was not a technical exchange of exercises.
It was a deep exploration of identity, ego, presence, and methodology.

The Core Challenge
A newer coach shared her experience:
Working with friends who were skilled riders felt different.
These clients:
Because HorseDream is not about training horses.
It is about developing people.
Working with friends who were skilled riders felt different.
These clients:
- Understand horse behavior.
- Know techniques and training methods.
- Are confident with halter and lead rope.
- Often interpret the horse immediately.
Because HorseDream is not about training horses.
It is about developing people.
The Fundamental Shift: Outside-In vs. Inside-Out
The conversation clarified a central distinction:
Traditional horsemanship often works from the outside in:
The difference is direction of attention.
For experienced riders, this requires a shift of lens.
Traditional horsemanship often works from the outside in:
- Technique
- Aids
- Performance
- Control
- Achievement
- Awareness
- Emotional congruence
- Presence
- Relationship
- Self-reflection
The difference is direction of attention.
For experienced riders, this requires a shift of lens.
Resetting the Table
A key insight from the session:
The learning frame must be set before the exercise begins.
If equestrians enter the arena:
Therefore, coaches must:
It is about transforming perspective.
The learning frame must be set before the exercise begins.
If equestrians enter the arena:
- With their credentials,
- With their riding identity,
- With their performance mindset,
Therefore, coaches must:
- Clarify: This is not a horsemanship seminar.
- Establish a learning agreement.
- Invite “beginner’s mind.”
- Remove performance pressure.
- Shift focus to inner state.
It is about transforming perspective.
Horses as “Ego Killers”
One participant described horses as “ego killers”
Horses:
Only when she dropped her performance persona and opened emotionally did the horse step forward and connect
That moment changed everything.
Horses:
- Do not respond to titles.
- Do not recognize hierarchy.
- Do not care about Olympic medals.
- Do not read CVs.
- Congruence.
- Regulation.
- Authentic presence.
Only when she dropped her performance persona and opened emotionally did the horse step forward and connect
That moment changed everything.
One Community, Many Languages
A crucial discussion unfolded around language and inclusion.
Some members argued:
not avoiding complexity, but holding it with respect.
It also shows the deeper truth we know from the horses:
Unity does not mean sameness. Unity means connection.
Some members argued:
- We need a strong unified English-speaking “main train” for international coherence.
- Entire parts of the community feel disconnected because English is a barrier.
- Local markets require local language to reach clients.
- Regional “wagons” need reconnection—without losing unity
not avoiding complexity, but holding it with respect.
It also shows the deeper truth we know from the horses:
Unity does not mean sameness. Unity means connection.
The Blindfold Experience: Relationship Over Control
Another example shared was a blindfold exercise with a woman considering selling her horse
Without technique.
Without training.
Without control.
The horse found her immediately.
The decision to sell dissolved.
This illustrates one of the deepest HorseDream principles:
When control stops, connection begins.
Without technique.
Without training.
Without control.
The horse found her immediately.
The decision to sell dissolved.
This illustrates one of the deepest HorseDream principles:
When control stops, connection begins.
Trust the Horse. Trust the Process.
If something feels blocked, look inside first
Horses mirror:
The facilitator is not the hero.
The horse is the teacher.
Horses mirror:
- Inner tension
- Fear
- Ego
- Uncertainty
- Congruence
- Regulate yourself.
- Breathe with the horse.
- Observe before intervening.
- Trust that the horse knows what to reveal.
The facilitator is not the hero.
The horse is the teacher.
The Bridge Principle
A remarkable insight emerged:
This work ultimately makes people better riders.
When riders:
The bridge goes both ways.
HorseDream does not compete with riding.
It deepens it.
This work ultimately makes people better riders.
When riders:
- Drop control,
- Increase awareness,
- Strengthen emotional regulation,
- Develop deeper connection,
The bridge goes both ways.
HorseDream does not compete with riding.
It deepens it.
